Talking to My Kettle in Irish: How to Practice Speaking Irish Alone
← Back to the Complete Irish Gaelic Study Guide

👩🏠
Nobody near me speaks Irish. Speaking can wait, right?
Month one
👩😶
"Dia duit!" ... "Em ... yes. Hello. Sorry."
Online meetup
☕🎤
"Tá mé ag déanamh tae." Recording one minute daily.
The fix
👩🙂
"Dia is Muire duit! Is mise Áine."
Five weeks later
- Narrate your day aloud. Describe what you are doing in simple Irish while you cook, walk or tidy up.
- Record one minute and listen back. Compare it with native audio from RnaG or TG4 and shadow the lines you stumble on.
- Count speaking minutes separately. Solo talk is real practice, so give it its own number instead of lumping it in.
The Irish Gaelic Self-Study Progress Tracker at https://kimnet8.gumroad.com/l/kanmzp has a speaking column for solo practice and a notes column for the phrases that tangle your tongue. A week of five-minute entries shows the silence is finally broken.
